Crash Bandicoot is a video game developed by Naughty Dog and released on September 9, 1996 for the PlayStation. It was first entry in the Crash Bandicoot franchise as well as the first game in the main series, introducing several main characters, such as Crash himself, Aku Aku, Doctor Neo Cortex, and Doctor Nitrus Brio. It was later released on the PlayStation Network in 2006. A remake of the game's third level, Boulders, was included as a minigame in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, a later game developed by Naughty Dog.

Crash Bandicoot received positive reception, garnering a score of 9/10 on Game Informer, 4.5/5 from GamePro, and an overall 80% on Game Rankings. It's graphics were praised while the gameplay was criticized due to it's lack of innovation.

As of November 2003, Crash Bandicoot had become one of the best selling PlayStation titles, selling over 6.8 million units worldwide.
